While going down the road in my 78 F100 300, i hear a sorta loud wistling sound kinda like a turbo, it only does this at Low RPMs, and the more gas you give it, the lower the pitch and then it goes away. At first i thought it was because of an intake leak i had, that was not the case so i am thinking the carb is leaking. Any suggestions? Also will this kill any performance or gas mileage?
you got a vacuum leak somewhere and yes it does kill both. while the engine is idling, spray some starting fluid on the gaskets mating surfaces and the vacuum ports and hoses. if the motor revs then you found the leak
Also could use a hose or whatever to listen for the leak. IE:
one end to your ear, and the other as a "probe"..
If it's that loud, it should be easy to find..zero in with the hose to find the exact spot. Rev the gas to the speed you hear it best , if needed...But usually idle is best, as less other noises...MK
