I pull a 28 foot 5th wheel trailer with my '77 F 350 super cab and would like to pull the old New Process 435 and substitute a 5 speed transmission. New Process 535 or Clark 280/282. What's the easiest way to go..I'd like to do a straight bolt-up if possible. I'm more looking for power for the hill over a high-speed flying machine. Your suggestions?

NV 4500 is a dodge transmission. 5 speed and is a good trans. used a lot in these swaps. Most 90's dodge manuals are 4500's. i'd look for a ZF 5 Speed or you might Think about a ZF 6 Speed. i believe they have the same bolt pattern. if i changed mine to a manual i'd do a ZF 6Sp. You have to get an adapter to use the 4500 though. the ZF will bolt right up i believe. Advance Adapters has the adapter for the 4500.

Have you thought about one of the 2spd auxiliary transmissions? There are three that I know of - the Advance Adapters Ranger Over/Underdrive, US Gear and Gear Vendors units.
All are straight bolt up, requiring little but driveshaft changes, and will split the ratios of your NP435 quite nicely. The result is effectively a 7 spd (1st being two low to gain much benefit from splitting)

Just a thought, but, if you have to go down to third gear for the hills it sounds like you could benifit more from the over /underdrive unit. Personaly I would go with the overdrive. If you could split between third and fourth gears for the hills, that would allow you to keep your speed and power were you need it. When you get to the flats, split fourth and have the overdrive.
I would check the prices for the US Gear unit and compair it to the NV 4500 with all the needed hardware to install it.
What engine do you have in your truck? Is it cammed? Gear ratio?
Thanks for the advice... Engine is a moderately breathed on 400 cu.in., with an RV cam, .20 off the heads and a (very) free flow exhaust system. Not too worried about high speed, since I usuually travel at 55-60 mph empty or towing.
