Does anyone know the merit (or downside) of coupling a 60 gal tank to any of these smaller units? Would the extra storage be worth taxing the motor on the smaller unit?
actually the compressor will have longer cycle times(more time for cooling), make sure the secondary holding tank is at the same pressure of the tank on the compressor and put the regulator on the output of the secondary holding tank. alot of small package air compressors have a regulator on the output of the built on tank, either bypass it or crank it all the way up and run it into the secondary tank.
Actually Gil, increasing the storage size is of little benefit. While it is true that the off cycle will be a tad longer, the on cycle will be correspondingly longer negating any cooling effect.
The largest I can find available commercially is WW Graingers 2HP 115v, 15amp, 5 CFM @125 PSIG, for $399.00 US. These numbers are real. That is they conform to ASME standards. Remember too that CFM goes down as the pressure is incresed. My 5CFM @ 125PSIG will probably expand to 6 or 7 @ 90 PSIG
