Sanding pads source?

Anyone know a source for the type of pads or disk used with right angle die grinders. This will be used for paint removal and weld prep prior to paintng. I need the pads as well as the stem or collet as well as the rubber disk that the sanding disk mounts on. Thanks

You can find them under abrasive surface prep discs at: http://www.northern-online.com/ but they have them with a "speedlock feature" whatever that is. I am used to the adhesive units.

Grainger has them in several styles in many different types of backing holders. I had to look them up in a paper catalog. You can try: http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/start.shtml

Try an automotive paint store, they deal in finishing products.

An industrial supply house may even have some intelligence on hand if you walk in and talk to them.

I've seen them at tool rental places that rent the grinders.

At the plating shop we get them direct from 3M and VSM and get them in 100 lots.

An autobody supply outlet may be able to set you up with a box of 25, maybe even smaller quantities.

Try an auto paint store.
We have a "Matto's" near here, and a "Carsco". The Carsco sells all types of cleaners, solvents, swirl remover (detailing stuff.)

Matto's. . . . Paint, adhesives, pads, solvents, paint supplies. You name it.

We also have "Pep Boys" that sells some of the abrasive supplies, too.

the pads you are referring to are 3M "roloc" discs. they are pretty dern sweet, too. 3M 07480 and 07481 are the red (medium) and brown (coarse) 2" discs. they also make a 3". They have a little screw-on plug, that mates to the backing plate. There are several companies that are making them now, including "Glit" and others. We sell the 07480 & 81 in a 25 count box. There was a 3 or 4 pack in the 3M consumer line, but they are outrageous $$$$. There are also bristle discs in various grits. They are all great for their various purposes, but cylinder head surfaces are NOT one of them (just in case you get that idea, like I did....) Fel-pro specifically tells you NOT to use them, especially with aluminum. Spiffy tool on the market by Lisle is a roloc pad on a 6" shaft, with a collar you can hold and guide the disc. Engineered for accessing Mopar water outlets to remove the gasket, but handy for a ton of other things! Need more part #s or whatever, let me know! TomD

got the #s for those 3M discs..... here goes
2"..... disc holder 07715, 50grit sandpaper 01396, 36 grit 01397, 24 grit 01398
coarse brown scotchbrite 07480, medium maroon scotchbrite 07481
50 grit green bristle disc 07524, 80 grit yellow bristle 07525
(for aluminum, 07515 blue med scotchbrite, 07516 grey scotchbrite)
3"..... disc holder 07716, 50 grit sandpaper 01406, 36 grit 01407, 24 grit 01408
coarse brown scotch 07485, med maroon 07486, 50 green bristle 07526, 80 grit
bristle 07527. 07513 blue scotch, 07514 grey scotch, and a black "coating
removal disc" (for undercoating, seam sealer, other gook) 07461. Most of the other manufacturers use the same color coding. I have guys call me for "a box of red cookies" or whatever. I have a slick Chicago Pneumatic (CP) 3" sander that came with several discs and a carry case that works beautifully with these . Hope this is of some help!
