Ok I see. Don't run the ground cable all the way to the battery..keep it short. Just clean up some of that rust and ground it there or find another clean bolt around.

You can't just arbitrarily cut a port in a box. Ported boxes have to be built to precise specifications. If not, you can affect the performance of the sub to the point that it won't sound like you even have a sub, and/or you can cause the sub to fail completely.
