ranger 2.3 timming question

i have an 87 with a 2.3 4 banger , that i just rebuilt, it has the tfi ignition system, the problem is we cant get the timming right, we used a timming light and set it by the factory settings, it still wont run right, any suggestions on how to get it right? it also wants to over heat.

ranger 2.3 timming question

i timed the same kind of truck, make sure the arrow is lined up correctly and she should come right into time, it prob. will take some work though, good luck
