Deciphering Holley jets

On the jets themselves, what does the inscription "512" mean? I'm sure it relates to the size of the jet, but is it Holley code for a certain kind of jet?

Would be going into a Holley 390...

512 is a "closelimit" jet that holley made for emissions purposes . It is basically it is a # 51 jet .
These Jets are sometimes helpfull when you are trying to get an engine to pass emmisions and are good for huel econome .

Pretty much. That is correct. The 2 means that it came in an OEM carb and it is exactly a 51 jet. The ones that come in aftermarket carbs and that you buy separate, may vary a little bit. This insures that when Ford installed Holley carbs at the factory, that they are all calibrated exactly the same.

The normal two digit number is the size of the hole in thousandths of an inch, 51 being .051".
