94 F150 FDM Replacment

Hi everybody,
I am having to replace the front fuel pump for third time because of bad check valve in pump.
I know this is a common problem but its getting very expensive.
I was just wondering if there was a general opinion out there as to which parts jobber would have the most reliable replacment pump.
Also if there is some reason as to why this is happening so often.
This pump only lasted 8 months.
Thanks

NAPA or go to the dealer and get a Motorcraft. Are you getting just the pump, or the entire sending unit?

I believe you have to buy the whole unit. I need one for a 95 myself.

You can buy the pump independently of the sending unit, that's why I ask. I am not familiar with the check valve setup enough to know if the valve is internal to the pump, or if it is in the sending unit.

I am pretty sure that it is part of the sending unit. I had heard that Ford recalled some early ones and put check valves in the lines, but can not verify this.

Thanks for the info. Yea you have to replace the whole unit. I think from about 91 or 93 on up it is all one unit. Was just going to live with pump the way it is but found an excellent box to replace my rusted one with so figured while box was off it was a good time to replace pump. Maybe will just get replacement pump from Ford this time and see how it turns out.

If the check valve is in the sending unit and only the pump is getting replaced, then that sounds like the problem. I know you can buy the pump without the sending unit, but not vice versa.
