88 steering column

Does anyone know if the steering column out of a diesel is the same as a gas?
I need a new steering column for my diesel and I think its going to be way harder to find than a gas one.
Or does anyone know if you can change just the collar part where the key and ignition fit?(not change the whole column)
Someone was at mine with a hammer and chisel!

How about removing the steering wheel on a 88?
Anyone done that, and how hard is it?

steering wheel is easy, do you have tilt wheel ? the colums are actually very easy to disassemby and fix just need to pay close attention to where things go
