I am considerin' cuttin off my tailpipe right behind the bend to free up the famously restricted I-6. Will this affect horsepower/torque any? I dont want to lose my low end torque.
how will it sound? I dont wanna sound ricey, but it would be cool if sounded a little better/louder.
but if this aint a good idea I'll just throw a tip on there to help the sound a little bit.
Actually the exhaust system on the F series for the 4.9L I-6 is very free flowing, except when the converters decide to give it up and clog. the restrictions are actually in the head which doesn't flow well at all.
You can put a catback system on it when your current system needs replacement and add a hi-po muffler. The sound is unique. Not at all like a V-8, V-6, or a ricer. It gets buzzy above 2500-2800 with a loud system. Go with a quiet system or a moderately rumbly system. You'll be able to hear the 4-500watt stereo system under your front seat.
I took mine (93 F-150 extended cab, short bed)off all the way back to the cat, put a new stock muffler just off the cat, then a 90 off the muffler, a 45, then a tip just in front of the rear tire. It's quiet and how I want mine.
Thanks. I do wanna rumble but I am willing to wait until i can afford to get a good ehaust system, and then I plan to combine it with performance headers, and and cold air intake.
Thanks though!
Oh, BTW, I only said it was restricted 'cause that's what I've been told a lot. I guess people are jest idiots!
