2004 Power Stroke 250 Made Late 03 Stopped On Me In Cruise At 50 Mph. Since Then My Mpg Dropped To 14.7 And I Dont Tow Or Carry Loads. I'm Told There Is A Problem With 6.0 System Ford Just Does Up[dates And Nothing Seems To Change. My Computers Need To Be Changed Or Injectors Not Sure Which I Need Advise And Help Mike
There is an updated flash that seems to help a little with mpg . How many miles do you have on the beast ? What was you getting before ? Have you changed your driving habit ? My 2004 get 14.5-15 with mixed driving . Highway I get 17-18 . And I am happy with that considering these trucks are 7500lb bricks . If your like me the foot gets a bit heavy at take off . I love the power at take off but it does effect the mpg's .
Get the new flash, not the Oct or Dec flash but the one that has been out for a month or two......and by the way....

THANK YOU FOR THE REPLY I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT 18 TO 20 WAS REASONABLE MIAGE, EVEN ON THE ROAD WITH REGULAR DRIVING 143.7 IS IT, IT WAS UPDATED LAST WEEK NO CHANGE
Thank You For The Reply 9000 Miles, No Matter How I Drive Its 14.7 I Was Thinking 18 To 20 Mph Was Normal Just Was Updated Last Week, I'm Really Not Happy The Truck Went For 48500. Mike
I have seen improved mileage reported here as more miles are put on the truck . Diesel do take a while longer to break-in . I have seen some say 15,000 miles before they seen better mileage increases . However in town driving will probaly never be better than 15 mpg . I here a programer can help 1-2 mpg . And you can get one right here for $350 delivered to your door(if ordered before Dec.31). But with that extra horses your foot gets even heavier thus washing out any improvement in mpg .

Why were you thinking 18/20 in a truck that weighs close to 8k and has the frontal area of a small house...curious I am

Dropped to 14.7 from what? It stopped. You mean the engine quit? Hmmm, wonder about the ICP (Injector Control Pressure) or some other problem.
The dealer service should be able to diagnose the problem. Nothing is unfixable.
As others have pointed out there are a lot of variables involved in mileage, not the least of which is the terrain you are driving on. I know when I look at my mileage going across the slightly rolling terrain of central MD I can be getting 17+ mpg. But if you look at my whole commute, which includes crossing 3 mountains (Breezewood PA to Rockville MD) and pulling the grade on the mountains at 75 mph my mileage falls to 14.8. When you are trying to push a 8,000 lb brick up a steep incline it takes some umph!
I too was hoping for 18+ mpg when I bought my truck, and was disapointed when I didn't see it. But looking back and comparing it to what I had before I'm very happy.
Current truck: 05 350 Lariat CC DRW 4x4 FX4 4.10LS 6.0L PSD Auto
Previous truck: 95 250 XLT SC SRW 4x4 4.10LS 460CID V8 Auto
My current truck averages 14.8 mpg on my commute, my previous truck would never get above 11, and usually it was below 10. I'll take what I get and be happy!
18-20 should be expected because that's what the competition is offering for similar or less money! I just came from a '99 Ram that got 18 in town and 20+ on the freeway (it did have a 3.54 rear end though).
It's odd that it's always 14.7, never 14.6 or 14.8? Sounds like a computer issue to me. Have you ever hand calculated or is that from the overhead console computer?
The Overhead Console, It Started Out A 9.0 Then To 15.6 Then Ford Worked On It After It Shut Off And Ever Since It Has Gone From 14.1 To 14.7 Being Updated Twice, I Still Think It Is Computer Issue.
