My heater blower fan doesn't put out much force even though it works on all speeds. I haven't opened up the heater box to check for obstructions yet. Has anyone got any suggestions? Thanks.
this might not be of any help but ive had the same problem since iv switched to a lower output alt..i had a 120amp which was stock and since i was broke i had to settle with a 90 amp...had the problem ever since
The motors can wear out like anything else...(sigh) however, I would recommend removing your motor to clean out the heater box. It's pretty amazing how much crap can build up in there - and how well you can get to it with the motor removed. It's very easy. Be careful around the heater motor resistor pack - it has wire coils that can be damaged by a heavy hand. It's to the immediate right of the motor opening , you'll see the wires going into the case next to the motor. It's important to have airflow around the coils, because they do heat up when you're using the intermediate fan speeds. Not sure if it's hot enough to burn leaves - don't want to tempt fate tho. Between ignition switches and alternators, we need all the fireproofing we can get!
Do what cheggie said. While you're doin that power up the blower motor to check if its turning the right direction. My E250 WORK van had a replacement motor, never had much air output. I went to replace the motor and noticed an arrow on the fan indicating direction. When I powered it up it was turning the wrong way. I switched the wires on the motor. It now turns the right way. The motor was supplied with factory style plug but still turned the wrong way.
My 88 ranger pickup did the same thing, but I never figured it out.
It's always simple *****.
