The wiring to the back of my 81 f-100 is all junk and half the time the brakes lights work and half the time they don't, same with the gas gauge,The previous owner did some kind of re-wiring(who knows why) and I need to see an actual diagram of how it should be,so I can replace or repair the existing mess I have now,I'm getting tired of being polled over to the Local Yocals for this brake light problem. Any help would be great,a PDF file or something would be great.
Get a Haynes manual for $16 - $18 bucks. You will be using it a lot for as long as you own this truck and it covers everything from 1980 to 1996 so even if you buy something else later, you will use it.
As for your lights, do a search here as they are discussed a lot. You probably have a loose/corroded/rusted ground where the ground wire back there is grounded to the fender. Trace the wire back, take it off, clean area real well and re-attach.
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i have that same EXACT TRUCK with everything electrical taped and twisted together everywhere!!!!!!!!!! i just fixed the taillights like 2 months ago and now something under the dash makes smoke poor out of it! who were these guys and keep the wire cutters away from them!
