I've found a 1985 f-150 explorer. i'm just wondering a few things about this truck. It has a badge on the side and the end of the bed that says explorer on it and i can't really find any information on that, does anyone know whats special about this truck? I'm also wondering what kind of gas mileage it should get and how large is the gas tank. It seems to be in really good condition and i think i'm going to buy it and i was just wondering those things.
We need a little more information than that. What size engine is in it? What tranny? Automatic, standard, 4 speed 5 speed, etc. I had an 88 with the explorer stripes. I believe that this was a towing option. Others may have more info on its exact meaning.
In that case, you are most likely looking at a C6 transmission. Very dependable. You either have a 302, or 351W. You should ask to find out. The 351 has more grunt, yet not too much worse on gas. If all is running well, you could expect gas mileage of 10-15. Im not sure about the volume of your gas tank.
I don't know , or remember, any specifics.
Seems to me the Explorer was a trim level, like the Lariat, blah, blah, blah.
I'd need to know about the cab and bed to address the tank(s) issue.
In the owner's manual for my 81 f100 it shows that the f150's gas tanks are as follows
If it is a regular cab
116.8in wheel base 16.5gal front, 19gal rear
133 in 19gal front, 19gal rear
if it is an extended or super cab
138.8in wheel base 16.5gal front, 19gal rear
155in 19gal front, 19gal rear
