transmission life (auotmatic)?

What's the average life on a Ranger transmission? Are Rangers known to have good or bad transmissions? Do I need to start worrying about it? I have an automatic 2000 Ranger super cap sport 2X4 (which I think has a trans cooler as part of tow package) with 75,000 miles.

I have just above 200,000 miles on my 99 ranger 3.0 4x2 Auto. For the first 130,000 or so that truck pulled a bed full of tools and construction equipment. At least to the point where some suspension parts went bad and I ate up my spider gears......(that's another story) At any rate, mine's still going strong, though it doesn't see the work it did for most of it's life.

I have the same set up in a 99. Only 43K on it now, but I tow a bass boat 40 miles round trip over the Blue Ridge Mountains, 2-3 times a week 9 months a year, so it gets plenty of USE, so far NO problems & it still shifts like a LEXUS!!!!

All that said, I do service it regularly every 20K with a filter & FULL fluid exchange, that I do myself.

This forum has instructions on how to do it yourself, in the technical thread at the top of the forums main page. It's easy to do with the oil cooler so handy.

With the mileage you have, you will soon be due for service.

If you opt to have a FULL fluid exchange done at the dealer or a tranny shop, I'd make shure they drop & clean the pan, change the filter, THEN do the fluid exchange.

I'd also NOT have them do the chemical flush, as they don't normally drop & clean the pan nor change the filter with that service, so anything the flush stirrs up, will first be strained through & begin clogging the tranny's old filter & who needs that!!!!

Anyway, service the tranny per the service interval called out in your service manual, or sooner, if your conditions & habits call for it & it'll likely work reeeeaaaaallll good & last a looooonnnggg time IMHO!!!!!
