I've got a 2000 Ranger 3.0 V6, 23,500 miles, with a automatic transmission with overdrive. I like to perform maintenance myself and usually change the transmission fluid and filter early in it's life to remove factory particles.
My three questions are: does this transmission have a magnet to catch metallic particles?
How difficult is it to change the fluid& filter in these?
The owner's manual indicates the system capacity is 10 quarts - has anybody measured the volume of fluid when just the pan is dropped?
Yes, it does have a flat plastic magnet. Add about 5 extra ceramic magnets hich are stronger. Pan drop is about 3-4 quarts. More than suficient is you do regulat pan drops. You can get great filters at www.bulkpart.com at half the price, buy a couple. Pan gasket and O rings are extra. Just a messy job, but easy.
