So.. I brake for a stop, kind of a medium hard, not a panic stop, just a regular.... about 1/2 second to a second after it comes to a complete stop I get a thud or low clunk... Anyone know what it might be before I start tearing stuff apart?
Loose shoe, weak brake hardware/springs. Possible hardware out of correct position. Be certain correct front/rear shoes are in correct position (per wheel).
Could have a number of causes
Brake shoe(s) hanging on backing plate. Put a LIGHT coat of white grease or wheel bearing grease on backing plate where the shoes ride.
Worn out shoes moving out far enough to hang on edge of backing plate rub pads. Replace shoes.
Leaking wheel cylinder/axle seal contaminating shoes so they stick to drum. Fix leak, replace shoes.
Deeply worn drums catching edge of shoes. Turn/replace drums.
Driveline wear issue. inspect and repair loose driveshaft U joints, worn transmission output shaft/driveshaft slip joint, rear axle ring and pinion gears, rear axle shaft splines.
Loose wheel. Check all lugnuts for proper tightness.
