Power Steering Pump Noise

I have a 00 F250 V-10 4x4 and on cold mornings the power steering pump has a very loud whinning sound. When I warm the truck up in the mornings for the first time it is very loud and if I turn the truck off after its warm and let it sit for 5 minutes its quiet again. Is this a sign of the power steering pump going bad or something else. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Ford, power steering pumps on Ford engines are notoriously noisy, I can tell a Ford coming a mile away. If yours has a new noise, or an exceedingly loud noise, it may be problematic. Otherwise, turn the stereo up and take pride knowing that now everyone on your block will know you have a Ford, Ken

There was a thread on this site - can't remember the title - but it was about the same problem. If it leaks, is loosing power and not allowing you to steer/turn, then it's on its way out.

Just noisy - get a bottle of friction modifier (the fluid that goes in the Limited Slip Differentials) and add a very tiny bit to the reservoir, then take the truck for a short jaunt. Add a little more (very little) until it quitens down.

I had a Chevy 1/2 (forgive me) and the steering pump was noisy and steering was sticky. I just added some Seafoam TransTune and it cleared up in a week and drove it for another 20,000 miles without any problems.
