power steering pump whine

I work for a used car dealer, repairing cars for resale...

I have a 2003 expy 4.6L auto 2wd 84000 miles

it had a loud power steering whine when it came in

i changed the fuid and bleed the system with a mityvac and various adapters

no change, so I installed a new pump from Ford, filled and bled the system

same noise..ok thinking bad pump...warranty the pump and install another

still no change...give the car to our diagnostic guru, he bled the system again,

said change the rack...changed the rack...flushed and filled the system,

bled the system again, and still the same loud whine...HELP!!...

this truck has tied up a bay for 3 days off and on now and I want to fix it!

Thx Mark

Guys, Take this for what it is worth(?). I was watching "Two Guys Garage" one day. They recommended a product to help with Power Steering Pump whine (and mentioned Ford pumps as being a problem). The product was Lubegard Power Steering Pump Protectant, an additive to add to your fluid. I have not used it, but it peaked my interest because I had a Bronco that whined from the day I got it new. I have since gotten a 2000 EB 4x4. So the problem went away. At any rate the stuff is about $5-$6, so it might be worth a try. If you should try it please post you thoughts.

boss said install a new high pressure hose and warranty another pump...

hose will be delivered friday morning

this is not the normal ford pump whine...

its 40-50 decibels at idle and 70-80 decibels at about 1500 rpm

I would not buy a vehicle with a noise this loud

Thanx for your input...i will post more tomorrow nite or saturday

May need to try this Lubegard Power Steering Pump Protectant product. I know Ford's have the steering whine, but I feel mine may be reduced with the addition of this product. Will let you guys know.
