First off, let me say welcome aboard!

Secondly, since you do not want to fab anything, find a donor truck with a 302 or 300 I6 and grab the engine towers, the ones that bolt the motor to the frame. These trucks come with several holes in the frame and several motors were options, just need the right combo for your application. One thing to consider, the trans behind your 360 will not bolt to a 302, so you may want to grab the tranny crossmember and drive line from the same donor vehicle.
Personally, I would just rebuild and keep the 360, about the same amount of work and cost as a swap, but that's my opinion...

any 302 351 frame mounts from 67 to 79 will work.not 300.everything is a drop in with right parts.if your trans is stnd, all you need is bell.you will of course need 302 truck engine mounts as well.

It'd be a lot easier to change up to a 390 (direct bolt in) and retain the venerable, and ever so reliable FE block that you already have. I can't imagine wanting to step down in the tourque and horsepower bands. Switching to the 302 will likely see a mileage drop, or at the very least, no improvement.

First welcome to a great site. Check the tech articles, click on engine. I'm in the process of the same swap with a 71. I went with the SEFI. Not a bad swap.

I don't know about mileage but it will fit. I drive a 87 Crown Vic just like donor for my truck and I get 22 mpg mixed driving. I don't know for sure what my diff gears are, but gears are pretty easy to come by. My preferance is SEFI, but thats just me.

actually 312 the 300 I6 mounts will work, have used them 3 different times. just use the 302 motor mounts and move the towers to the back set of holes on the frame.

Bruce, Neither engine that you have referred to will bolt up to your tranny. Lucky you, You have mentioned all three of Fords engine bell families.

The FE 360/390 has a round top bell, The 300/302/351W/351C have a flat top bell with a 5 1/2" bolt spread, the 351M/429(never installed in a pickup)/460 use a flat top bell with about a 8" bolt spread.

Should you choose the 302 (big loss of power to the 360) you can use a AOD overdrive tranny, not available to the FE.

Personally I would not recommend the M for a truck. The pickup is much more of a box and even if you changed the rear gears too, you won't get the mpg that the car does.

A little more fat to chew on.

John
