Noisy Speedometer Head

I have a very loud noise coming form my speedometer head. The odometer number are jumping up and down and making alot of noise. Can anyone tell me how to fix the problem? I have replace the speedometer head with one from a junk yard. However, the problem return when the junk yard speedometer reached 180,000 miles.

Never had a problem with jumping odometer numbers but had one with a lot of noise, clicking and grinding type sounds. New cable solved my problem but yours may be different.

I replace the cable twice and I have replaced the gear that go into the transmission. This seems to be in the head itself. It is driving me nuts!!!!

I'm sure you did but I had problems with a noise I thought was the speedo head and it turned out to be dirty dry speedo cable I sprayed a Kano Brand cleaner down the housing and lubed the cable with synthentic grease.
