I towed my maverick (~ 3200 lbs) over 200 miles with no problems. I used my mothers 1985 mark III E150 bone stock drive train .
Cool, I too had a Mark III E-150, bone stock 302 auto, I abused that thing and could not hurt it. It never did anything fast, but it always did everything I asked it to. At over 250,000 miles it was still running, even though both exhaust manifolds were wasted, the rear a/c quit, again after I had it fixed 3 different times and all the front end parts were metal on metal. But I towed my big travel trailer all over the Northwest with it and all the kids. But I finally got tired of no power, so I popped for the V-10, E-350. At the time I could not find a 1 ton conversion van, so I bot an XLT. But I sure miss all that comfort the Mark III had. Ken
Ken, the interesting part is how many axles are required to have brakes, from state to state it varies, which they don't show.
For example, WA requires any 3K gvwr and up trailer to have brakes on EVERY axle that is on it. Oregon requires only one axle to have brakes up to a certain weight (I think it's 7K), before requiring brakes on all axles.

I did not notice where you were from. Oh buddy, fishing the Hoh River ? What could be better than that ? I towed my camp trailer up there a few years ago with my van. My buddy pulled the drift boat, we camped right there where the highway goes over the Hoh, talk about Nirvana !! Ken
Ken, my neighbor went out a couple of weeks ago on the Humptulips and pulled out a 51lb King. He also caught a 25lb King, which he gave me half of.
I haven't been able to go fishing this year, I had surgery on my left AC (where the collar bone and shoulder blade meet) at the beginning of Oct. Still recovering.
