on my 88 5.8L bronco im am haveing a fuel problem,
it barely started and knowing that it prolly wouldnt start again i ran it for several straight hours to avoid being stranded, luckily it got me there but the fuel pump wouldnt come on again
so i replaced the fuel pump and filter then discovered that the pump wasnt getting power so i checked the relays, apparently the fuel pump relay control wires are not getting power
so i replaced the eec relay, didnt help still no power to the fuel pump relay control wires so hotwired the relay so i can get power to the fuel pumps just by twisting a couple wires in the cab (temporary untill i find the fuse or short causing the problem) and so now i have power to the pump i hear the new pump working but i still have no fuel pressure?
my question is where to look next? and do yall think that the 5 feet of wire i used to connect the relay would cause so much resistance that maybe the pump is getting power but just not enough?
If the pump is running but you have no pressure, either the filter is clogged or the rubber hose between the pump and the sending unit could be leaking. It is pumping fuel into the tank instead of into the fuel system.
EDIT: You say you have dual fuel pumps? One in the tank and one on the frame? If so, if the low pressure pump in the tank isn't working, the one on the frame will not suck fuel from the tank.
I wonder if the EEC is seeing a short in the rear pump and not engaging the relay. I believe that the EEC actually provides the ground that pulls in the relay.
