It's your choice whether or not you keep the rebates. If you work the deal on the vehicle you want, then you can reduce it the amount of the rebate if you choose to use it. It is the same thing as you taking the rebate, then going to the bank and giving it to them to reduce the loan by the same amount. I assume since you are saying using it as a "down payment" that you want to take the rebate then turn it around and give it back to them, that would be a down payment? That is the same thing as them keeping it and reducing the financed amount of the truck. Again, it is your choice.
i just mean that i don't want to put any cash out of pocket down. i know i have the credit for it but i don't feel like haggling with the dealer about it. i'd prefer to just have them treat the rebates as my "down."
I understand, I am going to haggle for my siter inlaw's new car soon and I am not looking forward to it. Be sure to get to your bottom dollar of your deal and then subtract the rebate.
