Has anybody installed the HID conversion kit in there 2004 F-350 Superduty?
Just wonder what kit was the best and if any problems came about.
I see several conversion kits on the internet anywhere from $300 to $600.
And are they worth the money?
I have found several kits that replace the 9007 bulb with the HID bulb and ballast, and wireing. Ebay has several on there site and also many other sites sell the conversion.
I had the sylvania silverstars in my Chevy 2500HD and was never really sure if they made that much of a difference other than the blue haze.
I just have always been impressed with the HID's and was wondering if you get the same quality intense lighting from the stock headlight reflector assembly that you get from the true from the factory HID such as the BMW's. I know that they use the projector style lenses with are really small and look like a magnafing glass.
I have seen many vehicles including superdutys with the HID kits in them being from New Jersey not to far from New York City, I see them alot. All of the little rice burners have em. Personally, I do not like the way the superdutys or excursions look with them. Some kits look better than others and the amount of blue /white is measured in degrees kelvin. Most BMW,Acura, Audi etc are 4200 kelvin bulbs which is white almost pure ( for reference standard halogen bulbs burn at 1800-2500k I think) 6000 is very blue and 10000 is almost purple in color. The reflectors in standard housings are not made for such a powerful bulb and you will light up the road like a pair of high powered off road lights. I had a volkswagen GTI with HID Projectors and I loved them but they were projectors and I could aim them very well. If you really want them APC makes a headlight replacements that has projectors in them for the superdutys and you can probably find em on Ebay and put the HIDs in them and they might look cool. One thing I have heard and I am not sure that is true, The HIDs get hot, very hot and the lenses on factory HIDs are glass ours are plastic and I have heard of people melting their headlamp housings!
MY friend had the HId conversion in his 2002 Pontiac. They worked well, but he lost the use of high beams. In a 2 light system you would only have low beam lights. If you notice, Bmw's have HId low beams, and regular high.
The silverstars are white, not blue. Another concern I had was inspection. In NJ, they check high and low beams. If you replace the bulb with HID most likely you will loose your high beam.
I never put any thought about the High/Low problem
I will look into them APC projector housings.
Not really set on the HID's just seen the conversion kits were available and thought I would seek all your input.
Thanks again
