take the metal surround out of your old bed(the part behind the fuel door that holds the filler tube) or make one, cut a small hole in the bed floor by thr rail and recess the surround in the bedfloor. the tube will then be at a 45 degree angle and will swallow fuel as fast as you can pump it..I have this done on my 79 and love it...

Yup, this is a similar fashion we used with our '83 with a flatbed, stacked blocks. Luckily we fueled the pickup out of the bulk tank out of the back, so it's not something we had to do at the pumps.

When I built my flatbed, I built it so the floor was as low as the stock bed. This made it difficult for a filler neck. What I used was a front filler neck out of a 79 with dual tanks. I cut a hole in the diamond plate floor and built a 1/8" diamond plate cover for the filler neck. It sticks up about four inches and you can't fill the tank on high at many places, but it works well and I'm happy with it.
