Exclamation theft alert

I have a 1998 Ranger that has a problem with the factory theft alert just going off whenever it feels like it .The keyless remote stops it ,but it goes off again anytime? HELP!

Seems i read somewhere that the underhood alarm switch can be a problem on these. Try removing the connector from it and see what happens.

I had the same problem, it turned out that the sensor in my door was going bad and after I fixed that the problem went away.

My problem was with the transmitter, dealer finally replaced it, problem solved.

Mine would spontaneously fire on it's own, lying on the dresser or going down the road. One day the door locks began to chatter while I was driving, another time they began to lock & unlock while I was washing the vehicle, but the ransmitter was in the house. I thought maybe Nannie was playing around & messing with pawpaw's mind!!!

So you could try testing the transmitter/s battery to make shure it's not low & triggering the transitter, if they are old & haven't been replaced lately, or just remove the transmitter/s battery, one at a time & see if the problem stops.

I that doesn't do it, also look to the things others have mentioned, just do them one at a time, so you know which effort put the fix on your problem.

Let us know what you find.

I already replaced the batteries in the control. I also found some instructions on how to reset the remote. This worked for a couple of months then it started acting up again.

Ifinally narrowed the problem down to the door ajar sensor, which when not working would set off the alarm. The sensor is built into the latch for the door and after replacing the whole latch the alarm stopped going off and worked perfectly. I dont know if replacing the whole latch is required, but I found one in the junk yard so I thought I would give it a try.

OK, why not try the reprogram thing again & see if you get another positive response like last time.

This would seem to suggest something is amiss with a transmitter, just what I'm not shure just yet.

Has either transmitter gotten wet????

What event preceeded this problem beginning????

I tried reprogramming again it didn't help. It always seems to happen at night.A Ford Dealer friend told me to disconnect the sensor plunger located under the hood on the fender panel. He said they had problems with this in the past. This has stopped it from happening, now I need to replace it to see if it was the problem all along. thanks for the input I'll keep everyone updated!

I have a question in a similar line to this thread.

I have a 99 ranger xlt and has the automatic locks and their is a theft light that blinks. I was told that there is no factory alarm on a 99 ranger but reading this leaves me to believe that perhaps there is also an alarm. Is this something that i should have or is an alarm just an aftermarket thing?

Stands to reason if a 98 has it, the 99 will also. Mine is a 2000 and the light blinks telling me it is "on". Check your owners manual, but I feel sure you have the theft alarm. :-)

boarder, try setting it off. Leave window down, double click key thingy just to make sure system engages, reach in window and open door from inside. That sets my system off..

I also have red stickers on my side windows that say 'protected by silencer' or something like that. It is not aftermarket, it came with the truck, I dont think it was dio either at least there was never any mention of it.
