This being my 1st post, I should say how much I've enjoyed this site. I have learned so much about diesels and mods from reading the countless posts to now. Thanks so much to everyone who contributes to helping others obtain answers to their questions. It's a great site! I contribute my 10K (5.6K) Mod - switched, my gutted cat, and my 6637 air filter mod to this site! Thanks!
Now for my question: I called a muffler shop to have my muffler removed, and straight pipe added. The guy on the other end of the phone said that if I did that, it would affect my turbo. I asked how, and he said he had done the same thing to another PSD and the owner came back a few days later complaining about how if affected his turbo. It seems he was getting some sort of code for "turbo backpressure". The guy I was speaking with also stated the other truck he thought was a 2004. Mine is a 1995.
Has anyone ever heard of this? If so, what should I look out for? My exhaust is stock, other than the gutted cat.
I won't be the only one here that will say ignore him and cut it out. I have a 00' 4' sp, tymar, ccv mod and NO codes. Im sure with all the other guys on this site doing the same sort of mods, you would have found a hoard of posts about code problems from SPing. Besides a SP will reduce BP not increase it. Good luck and enjoy the SP I say.
4inch straght pipe exhaust. Dont have a code reader so I dont have any idea if any codes went off. SP helps power a little and helps keep EGT's down as well as provinding faster turbo response. Do it, you wont be dissapointed.

is this only if you have a bigger exhaust (4") or will removing the muffler and cat help on a stock rig?

smeezy, I'm not speaking from experience, but I believe every little bit will help. I did the air filter and cat gutting in one weekend and could tell the difference. I know most people are saying go to 4" and straight pipe, but I can only do what my budget allows. Eventually I will go to 4" with new downpipe, just not right now.

im runnning a 3.5" dp that turns to 4 just after the bell housing and then to 5" no muffler and 45's out infront of the rear tire. theres barely any exaust on this truck at all. my new john deere 5028 89hp turbo tractor has 3" right off the turbo to a 24" flow through muffler no problems there also and thats stock there
