Thumbs down tires lie!!

Maybe im just retarded but something seems wrong. I got a new rim for my spare tire so it matches my other ones cuz my tire cover was stolen. Anyway i was out cleaning it up trying to get it at least a bit shiny and for some reason i decided to measure it to see how much smaller it is than the tires i have on. My 31X10.50's arent really as big as they say. My tape measure says they are 29 inches tall. Then i measured the tread width.. 9 inches. the sidewalls clearly indicate 31X10.50. They are a little more than a year old and have plenty, i mean tons of tread left so its not like ive worn off two inches of height. and besides, theres definately no way i somehow wore off and inch and a half of the width. What am i missing?????

Just retired from 49 yrs in tires, and you are not missing anything,,, thats the way the tire business is and do not ask me why, they are dumb I guess... no matter what brand they are they are all off of what they try to get you to believe in size..

Get this, like you measure your size and go to that size in another brand and they will be diff. also... even that way in truck tires....
Lots of things need to be corrected in the tire business but went the DOT trys to do something the tire company lawyers head to Washington and tell congress to not let them do anything... tires standards are still rated against cotton cord from 1939.... thats why there are one ply car tires coming thru... ply rated of course to 4 ply cotton....

In my experience with pro comps, their tires are an inch smaller both ways than they state on the tire.a 33x12.5 is 32.5 inches tall and 11.5 inches wide at the side wall. The width given is also the over all width of the tire and not the tread.the 30x9.50 on a 6 inch rim on my truck is 28 and some change tall and the tread is7.5 wide...
