I used 4x4 wood blocks(pressure treated) to space my deck up behind an old 69 F100 I had. My deck was built using channel iron sides(2.5 inch) and 1.25 inch square tubing for cross members. I inset the cross members so that the 2x6 planks I used for decking were flush with the top of the channel iron. I also created front/back mounted cross members at frame width to allow the use of u-bolts to hold the deck onto the frame. I chose to use 2 pieces of flat iron with holes drilled in them to the right width, and redy-rod cut to length for the u-bolts It looked good, and for the years I owned it, never gave me any problems. I welded this all together, with the channel iron sides and rear facing the channel to the out-side so I could in-set tail, side, and marker lights into it.
