I am buying a 77 short bed to replace the flatbed on my 78. I plan to strap it to the back of the flatbed, but I am curious if the weight is going to rub on my 33 inch tires.
1978 F150 shortbed
4WD
33 /12.5 inch tires
Home made flatbed - has about the width of a hand in clearance - call it 4 inches?
Has an overload spring on the back
If I were really clever, I would cut the flatbed off and just mount the new bed straight onto the frame when I pick it up, but I don't have the tools I need to do that right now.
Maybe Mike can weigh the hood? Cuz it's the one major part I forgot to weigh in the haste to reassemble my rig.
Thanks guys, I'll see what I can do about the hood. I've got a NOS hood sitting in the corner, but it's not really accessible right now. The next time I move the stuff that's got it blocked in, I'll pull it out and weigh it.
2 regular size guys can carry a short bed no problem so I would say 300 or so???. Then again, my idea of regular is like me at 6'2" 290 like the rest of my friends.....
How much a chicken weighs will depend on the breed. A Cornish Game Hen has an average weight of under three pounds. Other laying hens can weigh only two pounds, while some chickens weigh over seven pounds.
This is a long bed, it did not see to bother him. I'd guess a SB is 270? Take the tailgate off to loose 15 to 25 ish lbs ?

William.....did you read what I typed in that thread? "it did not see to bother him." HIM being the key to all this. lol It ain't my truck, but a fellow FTE member out in California, I do believe?
I posted the pic to show folks how to haul a replacement bed. With the stake pockets lined up and a cut down piece of 2x4 in each hole to hold it.
Maybe the actual truck owner will chime in? But I'd guess they are not 37's, they look bigger than that to me.
I know my old long bed I scrapped with tailgate weighed 480lb So prolly new it was 500lb just rust might have taken 20lbs or so of metal off it. My short bed flare side is super light I'm guessin 250 ish 2 guys can move it very easy.
