Still dealing with this problem

It looks like I am going to head to a local 4x4 shop to see what's going on this noise. Anyone here can help out a poor dude? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Guys and Gals,

I have a problem and need a little guidance. When I shift my automatic 1987 Bronco in to drive, I get a KLUNK!!!!!!!!! If I shift it out of drive to reverse, I get not KLUNK. SHift it back to drive, and KLUNK. Took it to the mechanic this morning and he seems to think it's within the transfercase. He said it was .5 quart low on tranfercase fluid which he topped off. It still goes...........KLUNK. I welcome thoughts on this matter.

P.S. Initially we suspected it was a u-joint issue but after eliminating (disconnected the driveshaft) that as a possibility, I am back to the same ole' KLUNK.

???drive shaft yoke??????u joint???? loose tranny mount??? i'd go under the truck and start pullin on "stuff" and making sure it's resonable tight!!?? it could be the T-case? what year is your truck??? becouse those Borgwaner 1356 had a few problems with the oil pump lug.

Slip yoke, double cardon U-joint (front of the rear driveshaft), worn T-case (unlikely but possible), spring bushings, rear end gearing backlash, pinion nut, all or any of the above COULD cause the symptoms you describe. Heck low tranny fluid could be the culprit.

It is probably the transfer case. My 1356 is going out bad! I think it is a worn chain. I get a huge clunk in overdrive. I can be doing 15 mph and hit the gas hard and let off and the whole thing will slip and go boom! Just havent got around to fixin it yet.

Is it a manual or auto tranny?
