Spiders are creatures that act by instinctive impulse.. If you kill a spider, the scent of the dead spider attracts a replacement.. The more you kill, the more are attracted. That is simple biological fact. They all compete for territory declared free by death scent. The way to get round this, is to clean the scent away, after you kill the spider, or catch it, and release it outside. They are attracted to dark and undisturbed places.. Clean everywhere in your house, and you will rid yourself of the spiders as soon as they appear. Use a scented disinfectant on all surfaces and the spiders will avoid it. Use it often and they will always avoid your home.
The reason I know all about spiders is because I grew up in way rural Australia... the spiders there can kill.
My cats kill spiders, they like to eat them. Theo is right about the "death scent." Squashing them only makes another take its place. So you should do like my cats and eat them. They are a bit crunchy from what I can hear. Dont mind spiders myself, they control the other bugs that can occupy a home.
That and you get to act like a hero when one appears in front of the wife. I have a catch and release program going.
I have used those ultrasonic things and they didn't work in my house. Spiders got bad enough that I finally broke down and called Orkin. They have put down one application so far and I haven't seen any bugs or spiders. The reason you have spiders is because you have bugs. Get rid of the bugs, the spiders will be gone since they won't have anything to eat.
Does anyone know of anything one can do to keep the litter buggers out of there? Don't know if I want to spray anything in there because I don't want to cause a haze or possibly screw something up. This is driving me crazy.
Thanks for all of your guidance.
Mike
Ohhh.... buy a new TV. A LCD 52" mount on the wall type.
Where I am down here in south east Texas it's bug central cause of the long hot and humid summers. The cold fronts that come down don't last long enough to kill them off.
I'm also in a fairly rural area with lots of woods around.
The only way to keep the bugs out would be to put the whole house in a giant ziplock bag. There are snakes around but I've only seen one in the yard in the last forteen years I've lived in this area. Someone told me it was because of my cats and dog that they stay away.
Somebody told me a long time ago that if you have a problem with snakes to put moth ***** or moth crystals around the house and they'll move on. And NO it ain't nothing like it is in Australia thank God.
