This morning my mom was going to work and started the car and we heard this thump and a cat meowing. So I got out and looked under the hook and i saw no cat and no blood. So we got hame tonight and i was watching tv and heard a meow under the house. We have 2 cats and one kitten and all are wild. My mom loves all of them and she was out feeding them and she saw the leg of the kitten. Some of the hair is off of it and it looks broken because it drags it when it walks. It gets around ok but meows a lot because of the pain. I dont want it to suffer and neither does my mom. I am wondering should i shoot it and put it out of its misery or should i let it live.
If you want to go to the expense of a vet - it's up to you.
You can call around and price them , I doubt it's free.
Alternatively you can seek a private shelter in your area. Many people accept "Chinese Obligations" willingly due to a deep commitment to animals.
Or you can report them all to the local animal control - but they usually won't take an animal unless you have caught it first...
If you know how to splint a cats leg - you're better than I am. May I suggest full length (to the shoulder!) leather gloves if you decide to attempt that...
Whatever is done must be done quickly! Else it may heal in a bad position and it will be forever lame.
I'd adopt it and take it to the vet just because it lived as long as it has in spite of everything!!! It will never climb up into an engine compartment again!

The problem is is that these cats have lived here longer than We have. We moved in to the house after my great grandpa died. and he kept them because he would rather feed cats than mice. I cant get ten feet from them because they are extremly wild. I dont know what to do.
If you can catch this Kitten by all means do it and take it to a animal shelter they'll take care of it. However and i hate to say this cause i love cats but seeing that its wild it might be better to put it out of its misery but i would leave that to be a last resort.
Bribery works pretty well with wild kittens I've found. I caught a wild kitten 10 years ago and managed to train it to be friendly enough to do nose kisses.
If you can manage to capture the little beast, you'll feel alot better in the long run after it's healed up.
Cooked chicken white meat is irresistable to cats.
.22 shotshells work very nicely up close. They are extremely quiet as well. Try to get as close as possible, to avoid overspray of shot, the whole assembly looses all power beyond 15 feet and will not kill. The closer the better, there won't be any pass through.
It will be the best $3 you ever spent on that cat.
I have a kitty myself so don't think I am some kind of psycho.
It's your call. If you think his suffering is too extensive then the old 22 is the answer. If you leave him alone he will make it and adapt to his handicap. Nobody likes to see an animal suffering and when they are cute and furry it's even worse, but they aren't little furry people, they are animals. So don't torment yourself over it either way.
I have a nasty old tomcat that wandered in a couple years ago in horrible shape. then he dissappeared for a while and we thought he had died but he came back from looking dead and thrived. Then he came home with this huge gash about 4-5 inches long in his flank. I think a coyote tried to get him. Well that took about a year to heal. Also his whole mouth is a mess and he gets big sores and his toungue is all deformed and bleeds alot. I should have shot him 2 years ago but he is a survivor and has earned his can of cheap cat food everyday for as long as he sets on my porch. I even splurge and worm him a couple times. He can still hunt and likes to bring his trophys to the welcome mat. I stepped out in the dark barefoot and stepped on a rats face. He had eaten the rest I guess.
Well, I did quite petting "Handsome" after I got this huge ringworm on my leg. I got some salve from the drugstore that cleared it right up, but they told me you get it from cats.
Yeah I found that out when I looked up the symptoms in our home rememdy book. It is a fungus of the same family as atheletes foot, and although you can get it anywhere cats are still a common cause.
By the way mattsbox, how are you doing out there? You gotta be missing Montana by now.
Wild cats, in my experience are very easy to catch. Have caught close to 20 in my time. The easiest way was to leave an outside door open to a closed off room from the interior of the house. Put some food down, some didn't even need that, and close the door after they come in. I wouldn't suggest killing it. It's just his leg. Either one of two things will happen, it will heal and he'll be fine or gimpy. Or it will develop gangrene and such and kill the cat anyway. It's entirely up to your own personal views on these cats as to your course of action, but I'd help it. One of those No-Kill traps works very well too.
If your not able to catch the cat, but your able to feed it. At least try to make it a little more comfortable. Depending on how big he is, you can give him the human St Josephs Aspirin. Probably around half or quarter of a pill. Crush it and put it on a little bit of food. This will help with the pain. This was recommended to me by a vet for my old dog's athritis.
I hope the kitty doesn't suffer too much.
