Public TV trivia

Do you know who Nora Batty is?
Do you know who Hyacynth Bucket is?

I was astonsihed to learn that there were people living today, who have never watched PBS... How do you go through life without it.. SO, how many of you Don't know the characters I mentioned above?

for the inevitable few who take exeption to my question.....

I am joking, ok?

I thought you didn't watch tv? Oh, right. Just not the reality tv. Ha ha.

Sorry, I don't know the people you are talking about. I do watch PBS once in a while though.

I have no idea who those characters are.
But, I have to admit that as a non-owner of a tv, all the programming that I do get to see is unfortunately, mostly PBS. Do you know who Humbah, Jumbah, Jingbah, Zing Zing Zingbah are? (yeah I know there's one more but can't remember it) I know all of Clifford's friends, and I really hate Arthur. And the damned Dragontales, too. Those are marvelous examples of PBS programming as well. Why couldn't they just keep to Sesame Street and Electric Company and Reading Rainbow, and let the networks provide all the marketing fodder. I know they don't have commercials during the shows, but the shows are just as annoying. They do have Antiques Roadshow, though, which makes up for most of the other annoying stuff!

PBS, the network that abandons you at about 10 or 11, then picks you up again when you're 40.

Should be privatized.....

I never watch PBS.

Used to watch Sesame Street as a kid... but if I had kids today, I wouldn't let them watch it.

I only watch anitques roadshow on PBS. I get a kick out of seeing some obvious hustler tell a big long story about this wonderfull "investment piece" he got at a secret little antique store for only $500.00 bills and then finds out its only worth $40.00 bucks.
Or the little grey haired old lady who picked up a tiffany lamp at a garage sale for $2.00 and it winds up being worth $5000.00
Sorry to get O/T but couldn't relate to anything else on PBS.

Nope, I do not know any of them.. Sounds like I am missing nothing though. I did, however watch Clifford once, but my imagination forced me to leave quickly... I could only imagine the damage done by such an animal's calls of nature..

I did see Arthur a couple of time too.. What is Arthur supposed to be?

Never seen Dragontales. I have not seen Sesame Street for a long time, I used to like it, but not the over sized yellow bird.. That was once depicted in a show somewhere else, as cooked... Good show.

I tried watching one of the reality shows recently, that everyone was raving about. I was very unimpressed.

I used to watch PBS all the time. Sesame Street!! I loved it. Mr. Roger's came on right after it, that was when it was time to change the channel.

I stopped watching PBS when one time I was changing the channel & screwed up the cable box.

MR. Roger's was on every channel.

This was in the early early early early early early early early early 80's when music was music & a mullet was cool.

Oh what were we thinking? Mullets cool?

I love PBS. Watch it all the time. I have a six year old, so I know all the kids programming. I think it is pretty impressive when a rugrat starts talking to you about photosynthesis and you go "where did you hear about that?" and he says "on the magic schoolbus". He's picked up some spanish from Dora too.
On the adult side, did anyone see the movies of the Tony Hillerman books? I really liked those, I think Robert Redford directed them. I also liked a series about a british inspector in the 30's who got "exiled" to Africa (Nairobi, I think) for killing a nobleman (who was a pedophile), and he raises havoc among all the uppercrust Brit expats living in the colony, what with his ideas of "no one is above the law" and whatnot. I think it was called "Burned by the Sun" or something like that. Anyway, count me in as a fan of PBS.

Theologian, if you get DirecTV, then you'll be able to watch BBC America, where all of those shows, and more play. I've been watching Trailer Park Boys, and it's great! Just make sure Onslow wears a clean shirt!

I agree....at 33 they picked me back up when I was surfing thru and found the program Colonial House. Those people are serious. Amazing what they put up with. Actually I watched it every time I could......right until it was dirtied by the one episode appearence of Opra. Made me shiver....and run away.

In the new house I have to get satellite internet. I am not sure which one it is, but the package deal comes with tv too.. I will try to get BBC America - I enjoy all the British shows.
