Unhappy Big title and registration problem !!

Ok I found out today that the guy I bought my truck from doesnt have a title, he never did. Now I've done alot of searching and found out that if I use parts (such as a differant frame or parts from a couple differant trucks I can get a new title but it would say its a 2004/2005 custom built truck instead of a 49 ford F-1 because I would have to get it bonded and then have the state come out and inspect that its road worthy. How much is that going to kill the value of the truck? Also I tried having the vin number searched but here in illinois they only go back 10 years and its been sitting for around 30 years so there is no paper trail to follow so there is now way I can get a lost title. I would prefer to buy an old junk truck with a clear title and use the cab or vin tags from it to get mine a title. Also the lady I spoke with said something about a vin number on the frame and maybe we could try to use it to do another search on the truck. I've looked all over the frame and dont see any, is there a vin number on the frame and if so where would it be located at? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Ed

What state do you live in? Broadway Title might be an option if you know your VIN # and they do business in your state?

Consult Hemmings Motor News for some of the title services. You mail a bill of sale from you to them and a check for about $150 and they mail you back a Alabama title in your name and you then register the title in your state. All legal.

I'd do that before registering as a 2004 2005 kit truck.

Hope this helps
