Have a '92 w/7.3 . It has 21/2" Exhaust that I want to change to 3". My question is .....with/without mufflers, and true duels or 2 into 1. Looking for a bit more power and better sound.
I would suggest mufflers but I'd rather not run them. look at my gallery I got 3" duals and I'l tell you one thing if you are going to do it run stacks you can't get the exhaust pass the rear tires and you cover the sides of the bed or tire with soot if you don't run stacks. Ok know my other point "IF(this may be a big IF) you might be runing a turbo later on down the road don't waste you money on exhaust get the complete kit from banks or ats" as far as mufflers go get somthing that is just straight through.
first, I will refer you to my post in this thread, I have some pics and description of my modification .https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=303449 I went to my local heavy truck salvage yard and picked up plenty of good exhaust pipe 3 1/2" and 4" diameter. I ran mine out to the stock location, but I also have the rubber overload springs, so I didn't worry too much about the pipe clearance, the axle can't go up as far as it would without the rubber springs. I also made my own muffler. It isn't straight through, but it has the flow of one, and scavenging effect to boot. I picked up noticeable power from doing this, and it sounds real good too. It isn't real loud cruising, but you can tell when I get into it.
check out this site http://www.intechpublishing.net/tns/...l_pick_ups.htm they have a real nice system. 2-1/2" down pipes to 3" tail pipe. 2 into 1 muffler. it's listed under ford turbo diesels, but looks like for non turbo to me. never saw a turbo with 2 down pipes. they have complete system with muffler for $480.00
