Funny - I just saw a book that's out by Willie, titled: "the Facts of Life, and Other Dirty Jokes..."
Waylon and Willie were the guts and the soul of "Outlaw Country". I guess we're one outlaw short now...
I think the one that sticks in my mind the most was this duet they did together~

Living on the road my friend
Was gonna keep you free and clean
Now you wear your skin like iron
Your breath's as hard as kerosene
You weren't your mama's only boy
But her favorite one it seems
She began to cry when you said goodbye
And saddled up your dreams
Pancho was a bandit boy
His horse was fast as polished steel
He wore his gun outside his pants
For all the honest world to feel
Pancho met his match you know
On the deserts down in Mexico
Nobody heard his dyin' words
Ah but, that's the way it goes
All the federales say
They could have had him any day
They only let him stick around
Out of kindness I suppose
Lefty he can't sing the blues
All night long like he used to
The dust that Pancho bit down south
Ended up in Lefty's mouth
The day they laid poor Pancho low
Lefty split for Ohio
Where he got the bread to go
There ain't nobody knows
All the federales say
They could have had him any day
They only let him slip away
Out of kindness I suppose
The poets tell how Pancho fell
And Lefty's livin' in cheap hotels
The desert's quiet and Cleveland's cold
So the story ends we're told
Pancho needs your prayers it's true,
But save a few for Lefty too
He just did what he had to do
And now he's growing old..
A few gray federales say
They could have had him any day
They only let him go so wrong
Out of kindness I suppose
Rest in Peace, Big Fella. We'll miss you - but that's our problem to deal with...
Don't forget the Willie & Waylon classic "Luckenbach Texas". I visited there a few years ago. It is just a little clapboard shack type of store, tucked away in a rural area. It would be well worth the visit for you country music fans. The rural Texas hill country would be a great place to tour in my old 78 F-150 Ranger with its Jr. West Coast Mirrors and dual mirror mount antennas. God Bless Waylon, Hank and all of the "real" country music legands. These commercially packaged newcomers can't hold a candle to them. Oh,yeah - I wouldn't mind taking Dolly along for the ride!
-Ain't another voice around like Waylon. Boy he had a rough life though, just wanna put in my respects for the man. I'm a country fan and my heart skipped a beat when I heard the news.
I too have seen all the Dukes of Hazard reruns, and have a Dixie horn.
We'll miss ya Waylon
