The 60's just rocked!

I've been buying quite a bit of music lately and I must admit that although I wasn't born yet, the 60's just rocked!

I like a lot of the music today, but damn... I sure hope the youth of today appreciate the what that decade did for music.

My wife and I argue about music on a pretty regular basis.

I've invested close to $10K into what I consider a pretty high-end home-entertaiment system, and can't remember the words to most my favorite songs. My wife listens to a boom-box and can remember the words to almost every song she's ever heard.

I love blues, classic rock, acoustic and vocal heavy stuff. She loves hard-*** stuff, mostly with lyrics I can't understand, much less remember.

Sometimes I wonder who truely loves music more?

Well it certainly was a better time.

Being 19 in 1969 seeing everything the world offered was amazing.

60's
Elvis had been in high gear musically & doing movies
The British Invasion came
The Pill was born

In 1969:

Graduating High School (Racing a 67 390 Mustang at the track)
NASA Landing on the Moon,
Woodstock
Feeling the ripples of Martin Luther King's Death
The Break-up of the Beatles
Working part time at a Car Dealership as a Lot Boy,Driving Muscle cars like Camaro's,GTO's, Firebird's,Chevelle's

If I think of others and add them.

I grew up in the SF Bay Area in the 50's/60's. I had the great fortune to see the greats while they were still great and reachable. Joplin, the Dead, Airplane, Clapton, Stones, even the Beatles twice. Sly & the Family, Santana, Zepplin, Chicago, ELVIS, CS&N, Country Joe, Steve Miller, Zane Grey, Yes, The Who, The Flying Burrito Bros. etc...etc...and on and on! It was a very cool time. Free concerts in the park, Days on the Green, The Monterey Jazz Fest and Altimont. Yeah The 60's Rocked!!!

Wasn't this during the hippie movement?

I know which performers your speaking of. They were before my time.

Some of them are still alive & kicking.

Clapton
Stones
Santana
A couple of the Beatles
The dead died when Garcia past.

Airplane? Wasn't that Jefferson Airplane later known as Jefferson Starship?

Flying Burrito Bros? I'm not even going to ask.

I was alive then....

I was alive in the sixties ; and the late sixties and early seventies will always be known for it's musical contributions. WHile I have a very open mind and " not just set in my ways" music pretty much died in the mid - 80's. Unfortunately most music is just digitally altered crap today. The mixture of rap into culture has led to much mindless composition. Luckily nothing lasts for ever, and things have a way of repeating themselves so someday the influences of the 60's and early 70's will return. But, that means "our" current music will return as well. Maybe I will be dead or deaf by then when rap returns.....
Get on a classic rock station to hear some of the best. I may add that the majority of classic country music also appeared during this period - people must have been alot more creative during this period of time.

My dad bought me Led Zeppelin IV when it came out. He started me on the right track. Hundreds of vinyls in his collection. To this day, I still enjoy Steppenwolf, Neil Young, CSN(Y), Byrds, Who, Vehicle, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Fleetwood Mack, Joe Cocker, Santana, Eric Clapton(Byrds/Cream), Hendrix, Jethro Tull(not a person people, Ian Anderson is the person), yes the Dead too. All kinds I cant really sit and rattle off.
Times were good, sex and drugs were 'safe'.

In all my conversations of music, I cant find anyone who remembers.............Contry Joe & The Fish. Anyone?
One album came with The Country Joe board game.
Where is Joe now? http://www.countryjoe.com/

You can usually find Joe's Dad on Telegraph Avenue in Berkely. Quite the character, sold me a book written by Joe last time I was there.
