Has anyone out there had a problem with uncommanded wiper operation in late model Rangers? I have a 1999 Ranger with this problem. I understand Ford has a TSB for this problem, but paying a dealership to fix my truck is something I try to avoid. Has anyone had the problem corrected by Ford? I was just wondering if the fix is to replace the multi-function switch. Does anyone have a copy of the TSB that they can e-mail me (cldhh@volcano.net)?
I've had the same problem with my 1995 since it was new. It went to the dealership several times and they could never figure it out. After a while they just denied there was a problem. I know it wasn't just mine either because at one point, I had 4 friends who all had Rangers, and they all had the same problems. Ford told them the same thing they told me. "I dunno"...
I've checked several databases for TSB's or recalls but haven't found any yet. Now there may be one for your newer truck, but I haven't seen one for mine yet.
Just driving along and the wiper phantom makes a couple swipes across the windshield.... It freaked me out the first time it happened.
I've been lucky, it hasn't happened in a while now. [knocks on wood]

There is a recall on the MFS. I will email you a copt of the dealer letter.

The problem is the MFS. There is not a recall or TSB for your year.
I had the same problem with my 98 but only on right hand turns, or just drivin down the road. It used to freak me out!!! It was at the same time I was haveing all the problems with the dome light stickin on and the ajar light.Ford replaced the wiper switch no problem, but dome light is another story!!! I got sick of going back to the dealer to get the dome light switch fixed! I probably should have caused a scene, cuz negative attention is still attention!!! If ya got the warrenty take it in!!!! Mine has been workin fine for the last 3 months after replacement. If the dome light starts sticken, join the club bro!!!!
I printed out the notification letter and called my closest Ford dealer. They took my VIN and said they would call me back. I never heard from them. As I took a closer look at the letter, I noticed that it said it doesn't apply to Rangers without power windows. I have no idea what difference power windows makes, but I'm sure Ford will use that reason to not have to fix my wiper problem. I love Fords, but the way they avoid doing warranty work can sure **** me off sometimes. I'll prabably have to replace the MFS myself. Any idea what Ford gets for one?
