No harm in it, you just have to manually shift to 2nd when passing. Or you can buy a cable kickdown from Lokar for around $50. This will allow you to use the kickdown with any carb setup.
yeah i saw you have to change the whole shaft summit sells the correct one for 30.00 could someone tell me just how this works the one on my 2bbl that i replaced just kind flooped around and didn't do much how does it work
When the throttle is open all the way it pushes the rod back and down. The rod pushes the kickdown lever on the tranny which makes is downshift. If you switch to a Lokar cable you flip the arm around on the tranny and set it up to pull the lever instead.
I might add that the kick-down set-up also changes the amount of pressure on the trans fluid, where manually shifting does not. It'd be better to do the conversion and make it work the way it's supposed to.
All,
Holley makes the kick down likage kit. You can order a carb that has it on already. Strangely, the linkage just flops around until you hook it up. This means that the linkage does not move until you really get into the throttle. Unfortunately, you will have to dissassemble the Holley to install the linkage. This is extremely painful. The screws on the throttle plates are cross threaded to ensure that they never fall out. It is possible/easy to strip them getting them out and getting them back in.
I did mine with no problem, (YEAH RIGHT!)
Good Luck, you'll need it,
