Duration is not the problem. Lift is, the stock valve tran will only handle so much lift. How much I don't know. I had the mechin shop cut down the pedestales and redrill the holes and rethred then to 7/16, then we put screw in studs and guide plates from a bbc. With new valves, valve guids, replaning, new comp springs, locks, retaners, the grand tolal fo 580.00. Then I bought a set of roller rockers. And I can run any cam I want. Ithas a 265/275 comp can extrem 4x4, lift is just at 494/519.

I had a 275/285 comp extrem 4x4 with lift at 519/533, to much on the wrong end. I went down one and it works for me. It would have been ok with a stall convter.

I have the Comp Cam 268 High Energy and I love it. It lopes nicely at idle and has GREAT mid range power. I used all stock valvetrain, but changed the springs and retainers using some Crane units, just to be safe. Over 4,000 miles so far with no problems.

How much better is a 268 HE over an Edelbrock Performer Plus? Im fairly happy with my EDL, but as always I am greedy and want more.

Well your Perf Plus is tilted towards the exhaust side, which is favorable for Fords since they usually have poor flowing exhaust ports. Your cam has slightly less duration at .050 and less lift on the intake side, but slightly more on the exhaust. You have 112 degree lobe speration, which yields a smoother idle. I like a choppy idle for the sound so I picked the 268 HE cam which has 110 degree lobe seperation. Really for all around driveability and cold start ability I would say the Edel cam is better, but for old school thumpity thump idle and mid range to high end power the 268 HE may be better.
