I've been using ALOT of oil in my '78 F250 with a 400\4 spd, probably about a quart every 250 miles but the underside of the truck is dry so it's not leaking. I have seen some smoke out of the driver side tailpipe on startup but not every time. Engine runs strong and was rebuilt by a reputable shop about 10-12 yrs ago by the previous owner. Truck has only been driven maybe 10,000 miles in the last 6yrs. What am I looking at, replacing the valve seals\guides? It did have a broken valve spring repaired about 4 yrs ago. Should I have the heads completely gone thru now? This seems like a tremendous amount of oil loss for bad valve seals.
I wouldn't sweat it, my 351m burns 2 gallons per 1000 miles no smoke, no leaks, and it doesn't make any rattle's etc.... It just likes the oil I guess, lol, as long as it keeps running as good as it is I'm not going to worry about it.
