Windshield washer/headlight switch
Hi folks, I'm a new user of this forum as I just bought a 1989 Ranger Custom; six cyl; 4wd; five speed; long bed. This is my third Ranger and obviously I like them. The problem with this one is that when I pull the wiper/high beam lever toward me the high beams don't come on (momentarily, like they should); also, when I push the windshield washer in on the same lever, the washer doesn't work nor do the wipers work like they automatically should. Any suggestions on what could be the problem? I've checked all the fuses and most of these items are fused together, so that isn't the problem.

My first guess would be the switch. If it checks out OK, I think there is a relay (windshield wiper module) that could be the problem. Not sure where it is on the 89, but maybe under the hood if you have a power distribution box. If not, it is probably under the dash. Keep us posted.

Thanks for the replies. I'll start looking at the switches. Two other things though that might be related: my "lights on" alarm doesn't work nor does my "you left the keys in the ignition dummy" alarm. Could these also be related?
