I need a new sub for my 98' ford ranger std cab. There is not a lot of room, but I want somthing that will be pretty loud. The truck is a custom truck with bags so I really need it to be able to turn some heads with more than just the looks.
any suggestions?
This is going to be very tricky...and might be a tad on the expensive side. Occasionally they will have truck boxes on Ebay.com; however, it would be more assuring to build your own box. Dual 12's and a decent Amp should get er done, the only thing you'll have to watch is the mounting depth of the subwoofers. If your like me (6'3 and drive a stick) you can't afford to move the seat up any, for every notch you're able to move the seat up, the louder system you will be able to stuff back there, it's as simple as that. I agree with ya when it comes to cut-throughs... use that as a LAST resort. There are people on this forum that have put a cover over their bed, and placed numeours subs/neon lights throughout the bed. I'd go with that before cutting through the back wall of your cab.
Hope it works out for ya
I built this one off of an MTX Thunderforms design. https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...=56957&width=2 Cost me $30 in parts, plus the sub. My setup pushes so much air that the passenger window needs to be rolled down for the best bass response because it starts compressing the air in the cab and dampening the cone movement. With the box that GreenF150 shows...that's a lot of sound.
Get the box Green suggested. Don't try to fix 12's in there. A couple friends have 2 12's in full size reg. cabs, and have to have the seat as far forward as possible. 10's are the way to go, and you can get hitting 10's. Plus, its my opinion that you can hear a 10 further away than you can a 12. Now, if only I could find a box to get my 10's under the seat of my 94 ext. cab............
