Installing subs in my new truck

Hi there, I recently purchased a 1997 f150 ext cab truck and had some questions about installing subs. In my old truck I had 2 12" subs in a box that fit behind my seat, now I would like to re use these subs if possible but the box will not fit.

What I am wondering is where is a good place to get custom built sub boxes for two 12" subs for my truck? Also my rear seat is split about 70/30, so there is a metal bracket that the sub box would need to go around.

If anyone has put subs in their truck and has any pointers I would would be happy to hear them! Anyways thanks to anyone who reads or responds to this!

Another thing to add

I just measured my subs themselves and they are 6.75" in height, which is higher than my back seat...I have also read online that it is possible to raise the height of the rear seat. Has anyone ever done that? If so is it pretty simple?

when i had mine i had 2 12's under the back seat, the shop that did all the install sold me the box that was pre made and some new brackets to raise up the back seat for the clearence needed. all total was around $150 for the box and higher seat brackets. also the box had a space for the amp in the center so it all just hid away very nice.

OK, OK, OK, this is a PIECE of cake Custom Dual 12" 97-99 Ford F-150 Ext Cab Enclosure - FORDWK2X12

I have a set of 10's in my truck and they do VERY well. for 90$ plus shipping you can't beat this. Simply raise the back seat with the provided blocks and wire it up. It's that easy. You will HAVE to use shallow mounts though for the correct amount of airspace. I have my amp sitting below the side window driver side. it's a good tight fit so nobody can steal it, keeps use of the back seat, and it all around the best solution I have seen for this vehicle.

Hey, thanks for the replies guys! Also in response to the link here. It looks good but like I said my truck has a split rear seat so there is a divided part way through, so that box would not fit...

Yeah, I was also considering just taking it to a shop to see if they would be able to do it...thought it would be more expensive though. It only cost you $150, even with the install? How much higher did you have to raise the back seat?

I took the middle support out. The seat sits on top of the box without any problem and the box adds extra support to the underside of the seat. Rockford had a dual 8" setup that fit under the passenger side of the seat. Would you like me to take some pics and post them for you?

That would be nice if you could take some picture, if it's not too much trouble! Yeah, taking the middle bracket might be an easy solution. Thanks! Also, was it pretty easy to raise the seat? Does the seat raising kit come with all the hardware that is needed?

I SHOULD have pics up within the hour. The "kit" is a block of pressboard that has holes drilled in it :P The only thing you will need to get will be 3and1/2" bolts to bolt the seat back into the body. I would recommended spraying the bolts with penetrating lube from under the body to help loosen them up.There's four of them holding the seat down. The seat will push up into the back cushion a lil bit so there is a small amount of hassle. Goes MUCH easier with two people. Once the subs were installed, it took less than 30 minutes to get it all back together. Im assuming you have everything mapped out, the amp chosen and wired and all that good stuf :P

Thanks, for the tips. And yes, I do have the amp and all the wiring, just need to actually put it in. Haven't decided where to put it yet...but I have time since I will need to wait to get the sub box.

NOTE: the seat will not flip forward with this box. To me that's pointless anyways even without the box under there. I can't figure out how to put pics in here so shoot me your email and I'll send them to you.

Thanks for the pictures, one other question...Did you also have to raise the back part or the seat? or just the lower portion? Or does the back move with the bottom part?

You're welcome I left the back seat alone. It comes out very easily. two bolts on the bottom. I just raised to lower portion. Feel free to ask as many questions as you'd like

Hey Tex, in that link you posted, it says the mounting depth is 6.5" and you said I need to use shallow mounts to allow for adequate airspace...What exactly do you mean by shallow mounts and what does this 6.5" mounting depth mean?

the sub cannot be more than 6.5" tall. The box if I remember right only accommodates .65 cubic inches of space. You'll need to find a sub that fits those parameters. Shallow mounts are big subs designed to be put into tiny spaces for ease of installation. Look at Crutchfield, research shallow mount, and look at the box itself for the correct airspace. I would seriously look at 10's and not 12's because 12's need more air to push to create the thump. Ill look around and see what I can find for you.
