Can anyone tell me where I might find a part for my ranger's transmission. The part I'm talking about is a rubber ring that sits below the shifter on this top loading Mazda transmision. My ranger specs are as follows Year: 1988 Engine 2.0 Transmision: 4 spd w/od. The local Ford dealer said that I have to replace the top plate on the transmision with a new plate, just to get this rubber ring! Cost $ 163.50! The repair men in the shop at the dealer said you use to be able just to buy the rubber ring along. Why would Ford do this, the original one lasted 15 yrs! Any help finding one would be great! Thanks!
Anytime I've needed to go get something like this, I found that a self-service junkyard is the best way to go. I fix cars in my spare time, and I've replaced the entire A/C system in a car with junkyard parts for only 150 bucks. Greatest thing was, it worked! Thought this might be helpful...:-X11
Hey, hope you read this before you waste $163.00. The ring you are talking about is the ones the shifter ball pivots in, right? If you look in the picture at the Ford dealer, the lower one does come with the shift cover and it is the only way it comes......unless, you look on the top of the shifter pivot and see the upper one. It comes seperate and I think it's only like $3-4. Guess what, it's the same one as the lower. To install, tap one of the pivot pins in the cover outwards about 1/4", then insert the blue bushing in the cover, tap the pin back into place and there you go. Hope this helps. There are also a couple of shims on the upper one that need to be there and be sure and pick up a new boot also ( the round cover that has the 3 screws that holds all this in place. Later, Rick
