I've got an '86 XLT supercab with a 2.9, 286000,. Replaced the clutch at 165000, & 5 speed at 205000. Does not appear to burn any oil, but the ps pump leaks about a qt a month. Changed the ignition module, pickup coil, misc sensors, and computer a while back. Surprisingly I haven't had to change the oil pump or timing chain. Oh yea, changed the u-joints twice. With my lead foot and poor service habits it's definitely a miracle machine.
I have a 96 ranger extended cab, 4 cyl., 2.3 liter, manual with 231,000 miles on it. I RUN THE HECK OUT OF IT, and i've never had a single problem with it
Finally pulled the trigger on a new truck. Sold the Ranger, BIG mistake it had 248,000miles and still ran fairly strong. Family out grew the Ranger's space. Still I truly wish I had kept it as a daily driver. Have seen it many times since sales...even talked to the guy who now owns it ( 2nd since sales). It now has 310,00miles on it. Current owner had to replace rear axle bearings which were failed when he purchased it at 280,00miles. Like I said I should've kept it...best vehicle I've ever owned.
Just thought I'd throw in my 2cents worth and add that I've got a '94 Explorer with 181+ on it and it drives like ALMOST new. Just recently I've started seeing the CHECK ENGINE light on and hopefully nothing serious. Any ideas? Sometimes it idle pulsates when first starting cold and wondering if it might both be a sign of the sensor valve or whatever it is going out?
