I'm new to the PSD. I have read hundreds of posts about coolant strips. This morning, I call 2 Ford dealerships, NAPA, Autozone and O'reilly. None carry them. NAPA stated that the manufacturer quit making them because people were leaving the bottle open and exposing the strips to air.
The Ford dealerships service depts. stated that they go strictly by milage. Mine is used and milage is unknown. I have an early '99 built in 8/98 according to the door sticker.
What to do?? Which coolant is correct? It was changed 17,000 miles ago if the previous owner told me the truth. Thanx in advance for the help.
You might try one of the Big Truck houses if you have any in your area: i.e, Peterbuilt, Cummins, International, etc.
I'm having a senior moment right now, but I got some test strips a few years ago from ? (Advantage?). I got them at their booth at the Empire Farm Days (an Agriculture show). Just can't remember their name but they occasionaly advertise in "Succsesful Farming" (and can get you a Wix oil filter for just about any piece of equipment ever made.)
Your local Navistar / International dealer should have them, part number OCC2602B in an individual packet with the chart to read it. List is $1.98 each, last ones I bought were on sale for 89 cents.
Thank you you for the info.!! I'll call the IH dealer tomorrow. NAPA said that their supplier was no longer making them. If the ph is as critical as others stated, one cannot just throw in the Ford additive. It too contains acids and my last chemistry class taught me that acids lower ph. I'm wondering how much hype the Ford Motor Co. is blowing. I work in a lab every day. I have very sophisticated instruments that measure ph. If you are going to alter something, then measure it and do it properly.
