This is my world test. I've seen all the posts about to disconnect or not. Does it give you more bost or not. You can check my signature to see whats in my truck, 00 PSD. After upgrading my gauges to Auto Meter C2's I thought I'd give it a try. Pre numbers are 20 lbs boost and as high as 1250 on the pyro. all the runs are on an empty truck ( no load ). Disconnected the watse gate and went for a ride. Post numbers are 28 lbs boost and every run under 1000 on the pyro. This is a significant difference. The bost numbers are great but I loved the drop in egt's. The SES comes on at 26 lbs with a P0238 code for over boost. My next step will be a regulator in the map sensor line set at 24 lbs as to not get an SES light. Many people can dispute this however they wish as I said this is my world.
Yes. The gas engine people freak when we crank the boost on the diesels, but in this case: more air in=more heat removed on the way out. Thanks for posting this info. My wastegate regulator hose is removed and capped also and has been for quite some time now even with stock programming and factory exhaust.
I like the extra power of the chip but not the egt's. Maybe this is the answer to my problem. I considered going to a programer so I could program it to play then set it back to stock. This probly saved me a few bucks.
Yes when you have the fuel ( i.e. chip, programmer, 10K or clamp mod ) this can make a big difference. The reason you see a drop in EGT is the extra boost is burning all the extra fuel your chip is dumping in the engine, bet your truck smokes less too.
Smokes less and the turbo really sings. Man there goes my mileage. Windows down foot on the floor. Probably suck up a rice burner. Does that increase mileage, or just extra points?
alright im stupid i'll admit it. what is a wastegate and what does it do. how do i go about disconnecting mine to get the same performance you guys do, and is this very safe?
The waste gate limits the turbos ability to make boost. When functional it begins to bypass at about 8 pounds of boost and limits boost to about 17 lbs on a stock engine. To disconnect it, when looking at the engine on the right side of the turbo the waste gate is a gold collered cylinder with a red vacuum line connected to it. Simple unplug the line and cap it off or stick it over the stud of a band clamp on the air tube in front of it.

That is a huge improvement.....well above what is considered "normal". Feels good to let her breathe a bit, doesn't it.
May I suggest that you set your regulator at 22 PSI. 24 is when the SES is actually supposed to trigger, so you might still get the light if set to 24.

what is a regulator, what does it do, and how do i get my hands on one???????/
A miniture adjustable air regulator, similar to what would be on the air compressor in your garage. You pre-set it to around 22 psi and install it inline in the hose between the compressor manifold and the MAP sensor.
When you produce more than 24 pounds of boost the PCM will trigger the SES light and cut the fuel back, by installing the regulator in line the MAP and therefore the PCM never see more than 22, and will not defuel.
Yea - like Cookie said - you may have to play around with the setting on the regulator to make up for an inaccurate reg. gauge. According to the gauge on my regulator - I have to have it set right at 20psi to not have the SES light setting all the time.
I ran a similar test as mech2161, I ran my truck in 3rd gear(auto, so OD off) at 2500rpm, a couple times with the line hooked to the wastegate and a couple with it disconnected. I found that with it hooked up I would run around 5-6psi and with it disconnected I was upwards of 9-10psi.
I never thought about checking the pyro to see how it was affected, thanks for the info. What hp was your tuner set at?

Do you also cap the hole on the waste gate since you remove the hose from it or just leave it as is?
